(Finished project, 2009-2010)
The sale of souvenirs and beautiful carvings ensures the survival of 112 families in Okahandja. Many of them are single mothers, and Konny von Schmettau actively supported them with food and clothing for several years. Even more important than immediate help is the classic “help for self-help” to lead women into a professional self-employment so that they can feed their children. When the professional independence of most mothers began to establish itself, the artists’ market burned down completely in 2010. With donations two large buildings could be built and a base of carvings for the new beginning could be financed.
